Sturdy and silvery-grey, etched with seven bold vertical black bars, patrolling coastal rock pools and shallow fringing reefs with bold confidence.

Distinguished from the common Sergeant Major by its seven vertical dark bars; fiercely territorial, brooding males fearlessly charge fish or divers that approach their egg clutches.
