Silvery and reflective with a black-tipped dorsal fin, probing shallow coastal sands and mangrove flats with a highly protrusible tubular mouth.

Equipped with an extraordinarily protrusible tube-like mouth that shoots downward like a vacuum hose to suck up burrowing worms and tiny crustaceans from loose sediment, expelling excess sand through its gill openings.
