深褐厚實的身軀橫跨著數道深色條紋，性喜棲息於近岸稍帶混濁的岩礁與防波堤石縫，伺機突襲獵物。

小知識

相比多數偏愛清澈外礁的九棘鱸，牠對混濁水質與泥沙底質耐受力極高，是華南沿岸極為常見的小型底棲石斑，鰓蓋後緣具一枚顯著深黑眼斑。
