An eight-armed ambusher that buries itself in the sand and waits for sea urchins and sand dollars to walk in.

Usually seven or eight arms, sometimes nine, spanning up to about 25 cm, with pointed tube feet and no suckers. It swallows prey whole and digests it inside, leaving broken test fragments in the hollow it crawls out of.
