腹鰭最前方的鰭條完全游離且具關節，能像「手指」般在沙泥表面一步一步爬行前進；雄魚的第一背鰭極為寬大高聳，求偶或展示威嚇時會像孔雀開屏般瞬間展開，展露繁複迷人的斑紋。

The anterior rays of its pelvic fins are completely free and jointed, allowing it to literally "walk" across the sea floor like fingers; males boast a colossal first dorsal fin that expands like a peacock's tail during courtship and territorial displays.
