華南地區最受歡迎的活蝦。因為傳統上喜歡在水稻田基圍中養殖而得名「基圍蝦」。
The most popular live shrimp in South China. Traditionally farmed in rice paddy enclosures (Gei Wai), hence the name.

牠們對水質的變化非常敏感，離開水後很容易死亡，因此在街市看到活蹦亂跳的基圍蝦通常代表極其新鮮。
