體表雜色碎斑具備極高欺敵效果，能完美融入珊瑚礁碎石與珊瑚藻叢中；雌魚腹部中央帶有一枚顯著的粉紅至酒紅色亮斑，常緊隨翻攪底質的羊魚身後伺機搶奪驚起的小獵物。

Its mottled camouflage provides outstanding concealment amongst reef rubble; females feature a distinct rose-pink patch on the belly, and individuals frequently shadow foraging goatfish to snatch displaced prey.
