Covered in purple-tipped little clubs, it looks like a tiny mace on the move, yet it is just a gentle sponge nibbler.
About 1.5 cm long, milky white with club-shaped tubercles tipped reddish-purple, and so full of spicules it looks furry under a lens. Villosus means "shaggy"; its 1905 description was the genus's first Indo-Pacific record.
